OATS PARK ARTS CENTER, BEFORE John von Szeliski started work on this project more than 15 years ago. As with many of his projects, this led to long-term personal commitment--assisting the client every step of the way from the first dreams to the completed arts center in operation. John's first meetings with Council members explored the kind of facilities which could meet the mission, aimed at the potential for creatiing an arts center out of the historic Oats Park School in Fallon, NV, built in 1914 -- a National Historic Register Building. Several community planning workshops were held in the old school, listening to diverse ideas, and leading to a recommended architectural program. This involved extensive renovation of the original school, plus a large addition which would become a new theatre in the style of the original structure.
