PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
John von Szeliski, Ph.D., AIA
As architectural designer, master planner, theatre consultant, or architect of record, John von Szeliski has had major responsibility for cultural and performing arts projects in many parts of the U.S., and is former national Chairman of the Theatre Architecture Commission of the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology.
His education includes B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue University (where he was recently named a Distinguished Alumnus by the School of Liberal Arts) and Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Minnesota. Prior to going into architecture, John was Artistic Director of the Adams Memorial Theatre and Chairman of the Dept. of Drama at Williams College in Massachusetts.
John's research and teaching in the U.S. and abroad has included observation of many top arts organizations.
He is author of several articles, essays, and also illustrated a popular textbook on theatre architecture/theatre history.
